Citation: Ho, M., Meade, H., Paul, C. H., Orchard Books (Firm),, & Horowitz/Rae Book Manufacturers (New York, N.Y.),. (1996). Hush!: A Thai Lullaby.

Annotation: This book is about a mom who tells all the animals to be quite and not make much sound. The mom doesn’t want anything to wake up the baby. However at the end its not any of the animals the wake up the baby, but the silence that does.

Genre: Poetry

Grade Level: K-2nd grade

Readers who would like this book: Children who like books that have animals in them and that have fun sounds that they have to make would like this book. This would also be a good book for begging readers as the book has lots of repetition and easy words.

Response and Rating: I would give this book a 8. I really enjoyed this book and is a fun book to read to children. I enjoyed the interactive piece of the book where the reader had to make animal sounds.

Text Dependent Question: What’s the last animal the mom tells to hush?

Reading Strategy- Choral Reading:

There are many way that you can do this activity. For this book I would do echo reading. This is where the teacher would read one line and the students repeat it back. This strategy builds fluency in the children’s reading. I choose this book to do with this strategy because it is best to do this strategy with a poetry book and also because there is a lot of repetition in this book.
