Book Title: Lon Po Po by Ed Young

APA Citation: Young, E. (1989). Lon Po Po: A Red-Riding Hood story from China. New York: Philomel Books.

Short Annotation: This book is a Chinese version of “Little Red Riding Hood.” Shang, Tao, and Paotze’s mother was going to their grandmother’s to celebrate her birthday and told them to lock the door at night before going to bed. The wolf saw the mother had left and tried to outwit the children. Shang was smart enough to come up with an idea to kill the wolf.

Genre: Fairy Tale

Grade Level: 1-3

Intended Audience: I think this book would be great for Asian American students as well as students who are familiar with the little red riding hood story.

Personal Rating: 10/10, this was a good classic book. It will teach children to be aware of their surrounding. The illustrations were nice and created a creepy setting.

Text-Dependent Question: “Where did their mother go? Who came up with the idea to kill the wolf?”
