Book Title: The Sons of the Dragon King by Ed Young

APA Citation: Young, E. (2004). The Sons of the Dragon King: A Chinese legend. New York, NY: Atheneum Books for Young Readers.

Short Annotation: This is a Chinese folktale about the dragon symbols we see around even today. It is about a king who hears rumors about his nine sons; Bei-She, Chi Wen, Pu-Lao, Bi-An, Tao-Tieh, Ba-Sha, Ya Zi, Sua Ni, and Tiao Tu. Instead of scolding them, he gives them different jobs that they can and love to do.

Genre: Folktale

Grade Level: 3-5

Intended Audience: This book is a good read for all ages. I chose third through fifth because it might be harder for younger children to understand what this book means and may take it literally.

Personal Rating: 10/10, I really love folktales so this book was good to me. The illustrations were paintings that the Chinese used to do.

Text-Dependent Question: “Which son did you like best?”
