Bibliographic Information: Tunnell, M. O., & O’Malley, K. (1999). Halloween pie. New York: Lothrop, Lee & Shepard Books.

Brief Annotation: Old Witch baked a Halloween Pie, and leaves it to cool by her window, then hops on her broom to make mischief. But soon enough monsters smell it’s deliciousness and go looking for the Halloween pie.

Genre: Fiction

Grade Level: 1-4

Readers who will like this: Kids who are into history and want to know more about social change and making a difference. Also, a great book to share and introduce culture norms and segregation.

Rating/Response (1-4): 3; the book was beautifully done. Personally, it did simplify the work that Nelson Mandela did and the jail time he spent while still trying to fight for what he believed in.

Text-Dependent Question: Was the Old Witch mad that they ate her pie?
