Niño – Wrestles the World by Yuyi Morales

Bibliographic Information:  Morales, Y. (2013). Niño wrestles the world. New York, NY: Roaring Brook Press.

Annotation:  The superb Niño had talents that could challenge his contenders.  He used his powers to challenge many opponents, until time elapses, which he had to tackle his sisters, but joined them instead.  This book also ties in Spanish culture, through the characters and words.

Genre:  Fiction

Grade Level:  Preschool – 2nd Grade

Interested Readers:  Students who are interested in Spanish or has a Spanish background could be interested in this.  Students who also are interested in superhero, or saving people, could also be interested in this book.

Personal Response and Rating:  I thought this book was interesting, and students could be interested in it through the illustrations.  However, I also felt that it wasn’t clear to see the purpose of the challenges with the other characters.  However, I did like how Spanish was included to give another aspect of reading aloud activities.  Lastly, I would give this book a 4/5 star rating.

Text-Dependent Question:  When the time was up, who did Niño have to tangle with?
