Snow Music by Lynne Rae Perkins

Bibliographic Information:  Perkins, L. R. (2003). Snow music. New York, NY: Greenwillow Books.

Annotation:  This book is a poetry book about winter and some of the aspects of winter.  After a snowy, the boy left and explored the outdoors which includes a deer, meeting a new friend, and finding his missing dog.  Lastly, the sun came out, which helped clear some of the snow.

Genre:  Poetry, Fiction

Grade Level:  Kindergarten – 2nd Grade

Interested Readers:  Students who are interested in winter, poems, detailed illustrations, and detailed writing could be interested in this book.  This book could also be used to discuss poetry and there are different formats of writing and poetry.

Personal Response and Rating:  I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I have enjoyed other books.  Something I liked about this book was the detailed illustrations and how detailed the writing was.  However, it was a challenge to understand the reading, which students could struggle with.  Also, for younger grades, they would be confused how to read it due to the writing not being the normal format.  I would give this book a 2.5/5 star rating.
