La Fontaine, Jean de, 1622- 1695,&Wildsmith, B.(1967). The hare and the tortoise. New York: F. Watts.
Short Annotation: This book is about a Hare that wanted to race a tortoise, because he wanted to win in front of his friends. The race started and the Hare took off, and the tortoise was slowly behind. The Hare got “cocky”, and fell asleep, and the tortoise won the race.
Grade Level: K-5
Intended Readers: This book is a great book for the younger readers, because of the message, ” slow and steady wins the race”. Also students who like animal, or fable books.
Personal Response: I thought this was an extremely cute book, and I loved all the messages that this book represents. Another message this fable had is don’t assume that you will always win the race. I would rate this book five out of five stars, because what this book teaches the students.
Text Dependent Question: Why did the Hare fall asleep?
