Brief Annotation: This book is seperated into 4 different verisons of Snow White from different parts of the world. The first story is like original Snow White and its called Show White: A German Fairytale the only difference in this story compared to the Snow White everyone knows is that the evil queen first tried giving Snow White a posioned dress but the dwarfs saved her, then gave her a poisoned comb and the dwarfs saved her again. Then finally the evil queen gave her a poisoned apple that killed her until the prince kissed Snow White from inside the glass coffin where she lay in the dwarf’s garden. The second story is called Marigo of the Dragons: An Albanian fairytale in this version Marigo is sent to the forest to be killed by her father but he cannot do it, and the evil queen asks the sun whose the fairest of them all not a mirror. Marigo is then given a poisoned hairpin, and a poisoned ring. The prince takes Marigo to his castle, his mother takens the ring off of Marigo and she wakes up. The couple gets married and the evil queen goes to their wedding and gets killed. The next verison is called The unnatural mother and the girl with a star on her forehead: A Mozambican fairytale. The mother in this story used to be the most beautiful in the village but when she had a daughter she was admired for her beauty and the mother soon became jealous. The mothers’ jealousy only grew more and asked her servant to kill her child. Again the servent couldn’t kill the girl and left her in the forest. The mother tried to kill her daughter again with poisoned shoes, but she was saved and married the chiefs son from a different village. The next story is called The magic Needle: A Turkish fairytale the padishah’s wife kept asking her servant who was the most beautiful and she said the padishah’s wife was until the servant saw their daughter. The mother took her daughter into the wilderness and left her in hopes wild beasts would eat her.While in the wild 3 hunters took the young girl in. Her mother found out where she was gave her daughter poison hairpins and killed her daugther, then she was sent in a glass coffin to the moutains and eventually she turned into a bird. The mother knew her daughter was a bird and ripped off the birds’ head, where blood spilt roses grew and she turned back into herself again, married a sultan and put her mother in jail.

Rating/Response 1-5: 4, I liked the book and enjoyed learning about the different versions around the world told. However it was kind of gruesome.
