The Sniffles for Bear

Becker, B., & Denton, K. M. D. (2011). The sniffles for Bear. Somerville, Mass: Candlewick Press.

Theme Paper

Bear is sick, so sick that he believes no one has ever been as sick as him. Mouse, who thinks he’s being helpful, comes to help Bear get better.

This would be a great book to use as a read aloud in a kindergarten or first grade classroom. There is rich vocabulary that kindergarteners might not understand on their own. Children would love the fun relationship between Bear and Mouse and even parents or teachers would love the more adult humor through out the story.

This is a great book. I loved the banter back and fourth between the Bear and Mouse. The vocabulary is even entertaining for a 21 year old!

Did Bear want Mouse’s help when he was sick?
