Title: Viva Frida by Yuyi Morales in collaboration with Tim O’Meara

APA Citation: Morales, Y., & O’Meara, T. (2014). Viva Frida. New York, NY: Roaring Book Press.

Short Annotation: This is a short little book about an artist named Frida Kahlo. Morales writes about Frida’s creativeness and her life of being an artist. This is also in Spanish and English.

Genre: Historical Fiction

Grade Level: K-2

Intended Audience: This is an easy book so it is appropriate for grades K-2. This could also be used for beginning Spanish class in elementary.

Personal Rating: 10/10, the photographs and illustrations were absolutely amazing! All the colors and even the real life use of dolls. The story was short but very meaningful. At first I couldn’t understand the meaning but as I re-read it, I found it to be a short and sweet dedication to Frida.

Text-Dependent Question: “What two animals do you see in almost every page?”
