Brief AnnotationThe Family Book written by Todd Parr is a book about families and all the different varieties they come in. Whether a family has two moms or two dads, a big family or a small family, a clean family or a messy one, a family that lives far away from each other or in the same house. The Family Book teaches readers that no matter what kind of family you have, every family is special in its own unique way.

Genre: Realistic Fiction

Grade Level: 2

Readers who will like this: Any reader that enjoys reading to learn, this book is all about learning what kinds of different families there are.

Rating/Response 1-5: 4, I really liked that book becuase it does a great job teaching students about the different kinds of families there are and how each family is special in their own way.

Text-Dependent Question: Name the different kinds of families mentioned in this book.

Strategy: All about books: Since this book is relateable to all students, since they have different families. I thought using the stratey of making “All About Books” would be engaging. Each student would make and illustrate their own family book. This would focus on writing, content areas, and aid English Learners.
