Title: Seven Blind Mice by Ed Young
APA Citation: Young, E. (1992). Seven Blind Mice. New York: Philomel Books.
Short Annotation: Seven blind mice found a strange item near their pond. On Monday, the red mouse said it was a pillar. On Tuesday, the green mouse said it was a snake. On Wednesday, the yellow mouse said it was a spear. On Thursday, the purple mouse said it was a great cliff. On Friday, the orange mouse said it was a fan. On Saturday, the blue mouse predicted that it was a rope. On Sunday, the white mouse ran around from top to bottom and side to side. White mouse then said it was an elephant.
Grade Level: 1-3
Intended Audience: This is a great book for students who love to figure things out and putting all the pieces together.
Personal Rating: 10/10, I love this book! As a child, my teacher read this aloud and I was so interested in it. I did not know it was an elephant as I was not a kid who loved figuring things out.
Text-Dependent Question: “What did the orange mouse think it was?”
Reading Strategy: Picture Carousels – I would take parts of the elephant from the book and put it up around the room for students to go and try to figure what each part is.
